Imperial Tobacco acquired Altadis, S.A. last year because the company sells a lot of cigarettes. It also sells a lot of cigars, in fact more than any other company in the world. Its unquestioned leadership in cigardom was confirmed by Imperial’s release of the full-year results for Altadis for 2007, which showed that the company’s total cigar sales reached $1.31 billion U.S. (converted from Euro). That’s a lot of sticks; the highlights.

LOS ANGELES – Joya de Nicaragua owner Dr. Alejandro Martinez Cuenca formally has announced his company’s decision to award its American distribution rights to fellow Nicaraguan cigar maker Drew Estate.

Since deciding to end its long relationship with S.A.G. Imports, owned by Manuel Quesada, Joya de Nicaragua took into consideration four new distributors, but insiders predicted some time ago that Drew Estate was in the lead, especially because it had its own sales force. One example of the advantage this could offer JdN: in the month of April alone, Drew Estate already has announced 23 in-store events in 10 different states across the U.S.
