A Light Cruise To the die-hardest of smoke connoisseurs, Cunard’s newly launched Queen Victoria is more than just a 90,000-ton cruise liner, or an opportunity to gain 22 pounds... April 2008 , Page 21...in 10 days on an all-lobster diet — thanks to the Churchill’s Cigar Lounge on Deck Ten, it’s a floating smoke spot. Despite an onboard non-smoking policy that extends to most areas of the ship, the Queen Victoria’s lounge (similar to the one aboard its sister ship, the QM2) nonetheless offers a cigar menu replete with Cuban and Dominican Republic selections, including the Cohiba Coronas Especiales ($21) and the Davidoff #1 ($19). Should one be settling into one of the 11 plush leather chairs for an extra-long spell of refuge from the family, there’s also a selection of vintage armagnacs and ports, premium cognacs, aged Madeira wine and calvados to be contemplatively swirled whilst puffing away.
And for all smoke fiends whose nearest and dearest convinced them to leave the stogie paraphernalia at home . . . the lounge also offers a complete selection of Xikar cutters and scissors, as well as a number of lighters, ranging from the Cunard Logo Lighter ($45) to the Colibri Quantum Vortex ($85). At first glance, such an impressive list of accessories might seem like overkill — until you realize that, for the true enthusiast who forgot his torch and blade, it’d be a very long swim back to shore. cunard.com
