Voilà, Le Luxe Cigar Case

Fallon's French sheaths protect your smokes from nature.

June/July 2008 , Page 25

A little over twenty years ago, French saddler and cigar smoker Patrick Fallon had a bit of an epiphany: to use his skills in leatherwork to create a pocket-portable humidor, one that would preserve the sticks inside no matter what the conditions outside. As anyone who's ever been stuck for a long period with a couple of prime smokes and no humidor to put them in knows, there's definitely a market for that sort of thing (and there are certainly more cigar-smokers than horse riders in France).

His idea paid off: Today, his company occupies a massive workspace in Annecy, and his seamless and stitch-free pocket humidors encase your smokes so tightly that pulling off the top results in a cork-like "pop." The wine analogy is somewhat fitting here; just as a bottle keeps the vintage inside preserved for years, so does Fallon's invention keep your cigars in worthy condition for up to a week. In what could only be described as an extreme version of product testing, Fallon even used the case to transport a few smokes into the Amazon rain forest, where they snugly survived the extreme humidity. The cases come in a variety of exotic leathers ranging from buffalo and toad to ostrich's leg. Depending on which type you choose, be prepared to spend between around $390 to $4,620 -- not to mention explain its purpose to every curious soul at the cigar bar.
